The Mission Parivar Vikas (MPV) scheme will now cover the entire state of Chhattisgarh to improve in quality and availability the family welfare schemes.
The National Health Mission in 2017 launched the ‘Mission Parivar Vikas Yojana’ under the Family Welfare programme to accelerate access to high quality family planning choices based on information, reliable services and supplies within a rights-based framework in 146 districts of seven states where the gross fertility was more than 3 percent.
In Chhattisgarh, the scheme was implemented in Kawardha and Surguja districts.
Vikas Sheel, Additional Secretary and Mission Director (Development), National Health Mission, Government of India, has called for implementation Mission Parivar Vikas Yojana to be expanded to all the districts in the above seven high priority states.
Dr. R.S. Satyarthi, Deputy Director, Family Welfare, Government of Chhattisgarh, said the state has been divided into three categories to bring down the total fertility rate.
The target in the first category is reduction of 0.3 points per year in districts having 4 or more than 4 gross fertility rates. In the second category the target reduction is 0.2 points per annum in districts having a gross fertility rate from 3.5 to 4.0.
The third category is of districts having gross fertility rate from 3.0 to 3.5 with a target to bring it down by 0.1 points.
Thus, the state’s target is to bring the gross fertility rate to its replacement level of 2.1 by 2025 in the districts.
Under the enhanced compensation scheme, sterilization services will be encouraged, especially in the districts with high fertility. More financial incentives will be given to the Mitanin and the beneficiaries.
Availability of condom boxes at prominent places will be ensured. Social marketing of condoms and contraceptive pills will be done through Mitanin, he said.
