As a part of its preparations for dealing with a possible third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic, which is likely to affect kids, the city-based health hub is coming up with a Modular Emergency Ward, equipped with 100 beds.
Equipped with modern facilities, like 16 ICU beds and a reception counter, this mini-hospital can be shifted anywhere. It is being produced by an agency called American-India Foundation. Though, it will be handed over to MGM management in the first week of September.
Dr Arun Kumar, superintendent, MGM Medical College and Hospital said: “As we prepare for the third wave, we need more oxygen with a larger workforce. We need to streamline our protocols to make things comfortable and beneficial for the patients. The Modular Emergency Ward, equipped with 100 beds, is a part of our strategy.”
A Delhi-based firm - PT Medical Solutions – is engaged in erecting the expandable structures made of fire retardant PVC tarpaulin on the premises of the Sakchi-based MGM Medical College and Hospital.
"The 100- bed hospital which will entail an investment of around Rs 3.5crore would be ready in the first week of September. The inflatable field hospital has a life of 25 years. It can be shifted anywhere as and when required," said an official .
Spread in around 12,000 sq ft area, the inflatable field hospital will have 16 ICU beds with ventilator facility, 30 oxygen ready beds and 54 general ward beds which can be converted into paediatric and ICU beds instantly, in case of a possible third wave. The high-grade PVC material used for the inflatable structures are fire retardant and waterproof too. It is quick to manufacture and install, modular construction offers hospitals and other health providers the most efficient solution for patient accommodation. “ We take a more personal approach to each project, which is why instead of having a large range of products we have developed building systems flexible enough to meet most requirements. These systems are very different from each other, to make sure choosing the right one for your application is simple. The vast majority of our buildings are designed and built to order,” said an official.
