Chhattisgarh Forest and Climate Change Department Mohammad Akbar on Saturday told officials to ensure that all private medical institutions must have authorization for disposal of bio-waste within one month.
Chairing a meeting of the Chhattisgarh Environment Conservation Board (CECB), he asked the officers to inspect sewage treatment plants being established in their areas to treat domestic sewage and present a report in 10 days, a press release said.
Akbar also reviewed the authorizations given under the bio waste management rule. Currently, there are 3,069 private medical institutions in the state of which only 1,997 have taken the authorization.
The authorizations also cover private clinics, blood banks, ayurvedic clinics and pathology labs.
Private medical institutions which offer bed services should take authorization for one year. Those without beds should do this only once. It will be valid for ever.
All this is being done to make sure there is proper disposal of bio-waste.
