Man killed as coal mine caves in

One person, aged about 35 year, was killed on Saturday when a portion of a coal mine caved in at Domchanch in Giridih district of Jharkhand, about 180 km from Ranchi.

The man, who was killed, was allegedly indulging in illegal mining when the incident occurred in the afternoon on Saturday. Police said that several persons went to extract coal from the abandoned mines. People did not inform the police about the incident as the victim was allegedly involved in illegal activity.

Unlawful mining is rampant in Giridih . More than a dozen people have died in related accidents in the past decade.

Police sources said that a youth was killed in a landslide on Saturday at Simariadhora area within limits under Mufassil police station area of Giridih.  The deceased has been identified as Bablu Mian a resident of Simaria Dhaudha.
