The Additional District and Sessions Judge of Jajpur sentenced a 46-year-old man to ten years of imprisonment on Saturday for attempting to rape an eight-year-old tribal girl eight years back in a village under the Kaliapani police station in the district. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, failure to pay, to undergo six more months of imprisonment.
Judge Gyanantra Barik convicted Nath Munda of a village under the Kaliapani PS under Sections 376 (2) F/511 (attempted to rape) and 9 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offence Act, 2012 on the charge of trying to rape the minor girl on August 13, 2013 in a field when she was going to attend the marriage function of her uncle. The girl’s father had filed an FIR with police next day.
The girl and 20 witnesses deposed in this case in the court. After relying on the evidence, the court convicted the accused and sentenced him, said Special Public Prosecutor Rajiv Mohanty.
