Monday, 31 May 2021 | PNS | BALESWAR

At a time w hen the poor and underprivileged are bearing the brunt of double blow of Covid-triggered lockdown and shutdown and Cyclone Yaas damages, the RK Jena Foundation and the Rebati Media House have been providing relief materials to the needy in Baleswar town.   In the first phase, the heads of both institutions, former local MP Rabindra Kumar Jena and his wife Subasini Jena, provided essential commodities to porters of the railway station and cobblers of the town.A relief packet contained wheat, chuda (flattened rice), dal, sugar, potato, onion, biscuits, mixtures, sanitiser and mask, etc.

The Jena couple said that Covid has inflicted a severe blow to the livelihoods of the economically weaker sections. The situation had improved for them for a few months, but again their livelihoods are affected during second spell of the pandemic. In fact, they are in distress for about one and a half years. “This is a small endeavour and we will also be extending help for the people of other communities, including auto-rickshaw drivers and manual rickshaw pullers, in a phased manner,” said RK Jena and Subasini Jena.
