The Government Railway Police (GRP), Itarsi, have busted a inter-State gang of thieves and nabbed 5 miscreants involved in 14 crimes of robbery and stealing valuables from train passengers and recovered valuables worth Rs 25 lakh; three jewellers have also been found involved in disposing valuables.
Police said accused have availed gold loan from Muthoot Finance in Bhadrak Odisha. Initially two accused were nabbed on June 11 and who revealed 11 crimes and police recovered valuables worth Rs 15 lakh from their possession.
Later, in the investigation when the two were grilled accused shed information of more crimes and valuables worth Rs 10 lakh were recovered.
Five gang members were nabbed in the investigation who were identified as Gaurang Raul alias Ramdas Raul (46) of Bhadrak Odisha, Arjun Singh Jathav alias Ajju (27) of Agra UP, Shridhar Sahu(37) of Bhadrak Odisha, Ajeet alias Ranjit(33) of Babina Jhansi and Pankaj Soni(40) of Babina Jhansi.
Lady passengers were targeted, reservations in sleeper coaches were used to travel and with the help of TTE would shift to AC coaches, would target after midnight, from lady passengers lady purse was stolen, wallet from passengers sleeping on platforms.
Out of 14 crimes, 10 lady passengers were targeted and 11 purse were stolen. The accused would check purse and take only jewelry and cash and leave the purse in the toilet where they used to check the purse.
