INTUC demands aid for street vendors

Monday, 31 May 2021 | PNS | BRAHMAPUR

The Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC) Ganjam Unit has demanded a monthly compensation assistance of Rs 6,000 for all roadside vendors and small time traders.

In a statement, INTUC leader Pitabas Panda demanded that roadside vendors like betel shop and tea shop owners, vegetable sellers, fruits and flower sellers and people who depend on pulled carts for daily living have suffered severely following lockdown and shutdown measurers caused by Covid pandemic.“Unfortunately, our Government has overlooked them and is silent over their legitimate concerns though they are regularly paying local taxes to Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC),” said Panda. During this unprecedented crisis, these vendors and small traders have almost lost their livelihoods and are living with uncertainty, Panda added.
