MoU signed for setting up ammunition facility
Shimla: A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) worth Rs 5000 crore was signed between Himachal Government and M/s SMPP Private India Ltd in the presence of Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here regarding setting up of ammunition manufacturing facility in the State for tanks and artillery guns. The MoU was signed by Director Industries Rakesh Prajpaati on behalf of the State Government and Managing Director Dr SC Kansal on behalf of the M/s SMPP Private Limited. This industrial project would provide direct and indirect employment to about 8500 persons.

Chandigarh: Haryana Police has confiscated a consignment of 1060 cartons (12720 bottles) of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) from a container truck being smuggled on rice invoice from Chandigarh to Gujarat in Rewari district. Arrested accused was identified as Sukhjinder Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran district in Punjab. A spokesperson said a police party during patrolling received a tip-off about a container truck bearing Maharashtra registration number was carrying a huge consignment of illicit liquor worth lakhs of rupees. Based on the input, the police team established a naka on a road heading towards Jaipur and signalled a truck to stop for checking. On checking, 1060 cartons of English brand of liquor were recovered. The police have filed a case under relevant sections of the Excise Act and Indian Penal Code.
HSVB nabs SI while accepting bribe of Rs 40,000
Chandigarh: Haryana State Vigilance Bureau has caught Sub Inspector Vijender Kumar, State Crime Branch, Hisar red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from Dharampal, resident of village Kahanewala, Tehsil Sardulgarh, district Mansa, Punjab. A spokesperson said a case under section 420,467, 468,471,120B IPC was under investigation with SI Vijender Singh. He was demanding a bribe of Rs. 40,000 from complainant Dharampal in lieu of removing the name of the latter from the case. The team of SVB apprehended the SI in the presence of Duty Magistrate and shadow witness while accepting a bribe of Rs. 40,000 from the complainant.
Pb Sports Min disburses training equipments
Chandigarh: To equip the sportspersons of the state with the required paraphernalia, Punjab Sports and Youth Services Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi, on Tuesday, disbursed technical equipments to eminent national and international players of the state. He handed over training equipments worth Rs 95 lakh to 24 marvellous achievers for enabling them to mark their feat in the national and international sports arena. Sodhi exhorted the players to play their game with utmost concentration and discipline.
Hry DGP calls on HP CM
Shimla: Haryana Director General of Police Manoj Yadava, accompanied by DGP Himachal Pradesh Sanjay Kundu called on Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur here. They apprised the Chief Minister about the measures taken by police forces of both the neighbouring states for inter-state cooperation, especially prevention of drug trafficking and organised crimes.
Both the officers assured the Chief Minister of the highest level of cooperation so that anti-social activities could be curbed well in time.
PYDB chairman inaugurates inter-circle shooting competition
Ludhiana: Punjab Youth Development Board Chairman Sukhwinder Singh Bindra inaugurated an inter-circle shooting competition in the local shooting range in Rakh Bagh here. After formally inaugurating the competition, Bindra said the tournament is being organized under the aegis of Mission Tandarust Punjab. He also handed over a cheque of Rs 11000 to state level gold medalist para-shooter Amandeep Singh of Ludhiana and assured full support to him. Selja lashes out at BJP-JJP Govt in Hry
Chandigarh: Haryana Congress president Kumari Selja on Tuesday alleged that people are fed up with the BJP-JJP rule in the state and development exists only on paper. Selja while talking to the mediapersons in Hisar said the BJP-JJP coalition recently celebrated 600 days of their rule and claimed all-round development. But the government seems to be non-existent. Not only farmers, every section of society is fed up with their misrule. The BJP-JJP alliance has emerged as the biggest anti-farmer government in the country, she alleged.
