In view of the IMD forecasting heavy rainfall in Odisha from December 3 under influence of a low pressure, the State Government on Monday directed district Collectors to ensure safe storage of the harvested crops. Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena directed the Collectors to take measures for shifting of harvested paddy to safe places. “In mandis or yards, necessary steps must be taken to protect paddy against the rains. The situation may be closely monitored and action as deemed necessary be taken in case any eventuality,” he wrote. Weathermen predicted that heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Gaiapati, Ganjam and Puri on December 3. Also, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at many places over several other districts.
