To control the second wave of corona, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan worked on a strategy of public participation, through which the spread of corona in the State could possibly be controlled at the initial stage.
13,700 cases were recorded as the highest single day infection in the State. In the matter of Corona infection, the State happened to be ranked as low as 7th or 15th in the country. This is the corona control model of Madhya Pradesh.
As soon as corona emerged, Chouhan formed Crisis Management Committees from the State to block level, comprising leaders of all political parties, public representatives, social workers and other important people along with the administration. These committees formed in colonies in the cities and in villages at the village level, were entrusted with the work of imposing corona curfew at their own levels, identification of the infected persons, providing them medical assistance, distribution of masks, door-to-door contact and testing and distribution of the 5-months free ration provided by the government to everyone.
The Chief Minister, kept reviewing Corona control every day along with the state-level committee, which included higher officials of the state, ministers, public representatives and subject experts. In addition, the Chief Minister continued his dialogue with the committees up to the Mohalla and village level, that ensured feedback from the ground level, on the basis of which the Chief Minister continued to give them guidance. There cannot be another such unequivocal example of public participation which played such a significant role in the control of a pandemic like Corona.
The second part of Madhya Pradesh model of Corona control was the concept of Corona Volunteers. More than 1.25 lakh Corona volunteers were appointed from different sections of the whole state. Their work was to provide help to Corona infected persons and to create awareness among the non-Corona infected towards adopting a Corona-friendly behaviour, assisting in vaccinations in which it played an important role in preventing the spread of Corona. Along with this, the yoga training was taken up so that the immunity of the people could be maintained properly. This was called Yoga se Nirog. The third dimension of the model is to provide better medical care and medicines to home isolation patients at their homes so that they do not become seriously ill. The benefit of this strategy was that with the exception of a few the other home isolation patients recovered 100 percent and did not need to go to the hospital. One of the effective strategies of the Madhya Pradesh model was to provide beds, injections and oxygen to the infected in hospitals. For this, the Chief Minister ensured transportation of oxygen through Air Force planes in collaboration with the Ministry of Defense. This experiment was done for the first time in the country by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
