In a major success, the Commissionerate police on Tuesday busted a major forged SIM card racket by arresting seven persons in this connection. Those nabbed included five SIM card retailers and two employees of a mobile service provider. The cops have seized more than 16,000 SIM cards and around 150 mobile phones from their possession. Commissioner of Police Saumendra Priyadarshi said the modus operandi of the gang was they used to smuggle pre-activated SIM cards to other States. They used false identities to activate the SIM cards, he said. The SIM cards were most likely used by cyber fraudsters for committing cyber crime in other States, Priyadarshi said. “We busted the gang while investigating a case registered by the Saheed Nagar police. The breakthrough will certainly help in curbing cyber crime across the country,” he added.
