The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) launched a mega campaign to prevent dengue, malaria and chikungunya from Pul Bangash Metro Station.
North Mayor Jai Prakash said the campaign to prevent vector borne disease has been started. Corporation’s staff will visit each and every corner to create awareness among masses. He said that North DMC will run the campaign in three phases till the month of September in its jurisdiction.
“In the first phase of this campaign, I also took part in this drive along with municipal employees to check the mosquito’s larvae and aware citizens through handbills and pamphlets about ways to prevent breeding,” he said.
Twenty-five dengue cases have been recorded in Delhi till May 22 this year, the highest in the January-May period since 2013, according to a report released by the south civic body last Monday. Eight cases of malaria and four of chikungunya were also registered during the same period, the report stated. He further added that in the second phase, Gambujia fish will be released in the reservoirs so that the mosquito’s larva can be eliminated in the biological form. In the third phase, fogging and spraying of anti-larvae in large drains will be done, he added.
According to the report released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), the nodal agency for tabulating data on vector-borne diseases for the national capital, no cases were recorded in January, two were recorded in February, five in March, 10 in April and eight in May. No deaths have been reported in the city due to dengue so far this year, it added.
Seven dengue cases were recorded between January 1 and May 26 in 2013, three in 2014, nine in 2015, eight in 2016, 19 in 2017 and 15 in 2018, it said.
Jai Prakash also said that the North Delhi Municipal Corporation is sensitive towards the health of the citizens so we are making all out efforts for checking mosquito breeding for the prevention of spread of such diseases.
