Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Tuesday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to ensure adequate and timely supply of chemical fertilizers as approved for Kharif season 2021.
In a letter, the Chief Minister also sought an additional 1.5 lakh tonnes of Urea and 1.5 lakh tonnes of DAP for July, states an official communication.
The letter mentioned that Chhattisgarh in June received only 57 percent of the chemical fertilizers, affecting the kharif period.
Baghel said that 80 percent of the state's livelihood is linked with agriculture. During the Kharif season different crops are grown in 48 lakh hectares. He said that sowing and other work had commenced. The state was allocated 11.75 lakh tonnes of chemical fertilizers by the central government. Based on the demand and supply, in June only 57 percent quantity was supplied.
If timely supply is not provided, it will have a negative impact on farming in the state, the Chief Minister warned.
