Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan today paid tribute to Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad and great social worker Nanaji Deshmukh on their death anniversary. Chouhan garlanded the portraits of the two great personalities at his residence and paid homage.

Chouhan said that Shaheed Chandrashekhar Azad had laid down his life for the freedom of the country. He was an example of indomitable courage, and his name was enough to unnerve the Britishers. Chouhan said that great social worker  Nanaji Deshmukh had made his valuable contribution in the field of education, health and rural development. By following the path showed by these great men, we will always work for the development of the country and the state.

Shaheed Chandrashekhar ‘Azad’ (July 23, 1906 - February 27, 1931) was a great freedom fighter. He was among the most outstanding companions of great revolutionaries like Shaheed Ram Prasad Bismil and Shaheed Bhagat Singh. He carried out the Kakori case on August 9, 1925. After the martyrdom of 4 prominent comrades in 1927, he formed the “Hindustan Socialist Republican Association” by joining all the revolutionary parties of North India and took revenge of Lala Lajpat Rai’s death by killing Saunders with the help of Bhagat Singh in Lahore and reached Delhi and carried out the assembly bombings.

Chandikadas Amritrao Deshmukh (October 11, 1916 - February 27, 2010) was an Indian social worker. He was formerly the leader of Bharatiya Jansangh. When the Janata Party government was formed in the year 1977, he was included in the Morarji cabinet. He turned down the ministerial position, saying that people above 60 years of age should stay out of the government and do social work.

Nanaji Deshmukh continued to work lifelong for the expansion of various projects running under Deendayal Research Institute. The Atal Bihari Vajpayee government nominated him as a member of the Rajya Sabha. During Atalji’s tenure, the Government of India conferred the Padma Vibhushan on him for exemplary contribution in the field of education, health and rural self-sufficiency. He was conferred with the Bharat Ratna in 2019.
