The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Saturday demanded a judicial probe into the Kawardha and Raipur incidents, accusing the Chhattisgarh government of targeting the majority community over religious issues.
Citing what it said was a one-sided action by the government, former Agriculture Minister and BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal said three persons -- Vijay Sharma, Sukhram Yadav and Kailash Chandravanshi -- were granted bail over a rioting incident.
But on a complaint of an administration officer, they have been booked again under the SC/ST Atrocities charges including for attempt to murder after a week. All have been kept in jail, he said.
However, not even murder attempt charges have been imposed on the attackers of Durgesh Dewangan, he said.
He said the BJP will take recourse to all necessary steps to counter such actions.
Agrawal wanted to know why when rallies were banned in Kawardha, a Cabinet Minister took out a rally with around 300 vehicles.
On September 5, a Christian priest and two others were beaten up by members of a Hindutva group at the Purani Basti Police station in Raipur. The assault was captured on camera.
On October 3, in Kawardha town, Dewangan had an altercation with some men from another community over pulling down a saffron flag. Another group took down a green flag, triggering violence.
Shops were ransacked and more than a dozen civilians and police personnel were injured.
