BJD candidate Rudra Pratap Maharathy and Congress nominee Ajit Mangaraj for the Pipili Assembly by-election filed their nomination papers on Tuesday. Accompanied by their supporters and several BJD leaders, they reached the Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Office in Puri and filed their nomination for the by-poll scheduled on April 17.
It was an emotional moment for people of constituency when Rudra and his sister Pallavi broke down in tears remembering their father late Pradeep Maharathy, whose demise has necessitated by-poll. Notably, Tuesday was last date for filing of nomination papers while nominations will be scrutinised on Wednesday. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is April 3. BJP candidate for bypoll Ashrit Pattanayak had filed his nominations on March 27.
