Chhattisgarh Excise Secretary Niranjan Das on Wednesday said that Balrampur district has been earmarked for a pilot project on liquor prohibition.
There is no country liquor shop in the district and shops of India Made Foreign Liquor are only five and these would be soon closed, he said.
Das was addressing a meeting of social organizations here on a banning liquor.
The groups suggested that prohibition be enforced in the state step-by-step by launching a public awareness campaign.
They also wanted the number of liquor shops in the state to be slowly reduced. Prohibition is essential for maintaining public health, they said.
