After the Centre has blocked funding for the Missionaries of Charity in Kolkata, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Thursday directed the district Collectors of the State to ensure that no inmate of the nonprofit Missionary organisations suffer from any kind of distress.
In a letter, the CM asked the Collectors to be in regular touch with organisations run by the Missionaries of Charity to make sure that no inmate of such outfits suffers especially from food and health-related issues.
“Wherever needed, funds from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund can be utilised for this purpose,” Patnaik said.
Notably, many Leprosy Homes and Orphanages are run by the Missionaries of Charity in Odisha.
On December 25, the Centre froze all bank accounts of the Missionaries of Charity, formed by Mother Teresa to help the needy. Sources said there were some complaints against the organisation and the Central Government was keeping an eye on some of its bank accounts. The Centre froze the accounts of the organisation to carry out an investigation.
