Farmers will continue their protests till the three ‘black laws’ on agriculture are taken back, Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) President Rakesh Tikait said on Wednesday, adding that farmers in other states are being contacted to intensify the movement.
“We have arrived here to meet the farmers of Chhattisgarh. The major issues of the farmers have not been listed as it is the first visit,” he said.
He said Chhattisgarh is providing an input subsidy of Rs 10,000 to farmers which can be implemented across the country. Telangana is also giving a similar subsidy. Let the states sell what is produced within their limits instead of the Centre controlling the sale.
When the farm legislation was discussed in Parliament in 2012, the BJP opposed it calling them ‘black laws’. "But the same BJP now in power passed it without any discussion in Parliament," he told the media.
“We are for providing legal protection to farmers through Minimum Support Price. Now, milk and vegetables should also be included apart from foodgrains,” he said.
Two more bills are pending -- one on seeds and other on pollution. The electricity bill has been put on hold after the agitation, he said.
