‘Don’t find escape route claiming innocence’

Sunday, 31 October 2021 | PNS | BHUBANESWAR

The Congress on Saturday denounced the statement made by Minister Dibya Shankar Mishra on Friday denying his involvement in the Mamita Meher murder case.

In a Press meet here, party media cell chief and former Minister Ganeswar Behera said Mishra could not answer the basic allegations levelled against him by local people, opposition parties and Mamita’s family like the mediating meeting in his Raipur house, his spending nights at the Mahaling institute and regarding the audio clip in which he is speaking to the main accused in the Mamita case Govinda Sahu which has already been handed over to police.

Behera said the Minister has not denied any of the allegations, meaning in other words that he has confessed to the charges.

Mishra has stated that his family has filed defamation suits against some media houses, but according to Section 199 and Sub-Section (2) of the Criminal Procedure Code if a defamatory incident happens with a Minister, the Government should file a defamation suit, Here, it shows the Government is not with the Minister.

“You are the Minister of State for Home; it is the duty of police, not you, to prove you innocent; your statement looks ridiculous; you better resign first,” Behera added.
