Vijayan says situation grave in Kerala because of Delta virus

As Kerala diagnosed 13,550 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday, Chief Minister Pibarayi Vijayan issued a strong warning to the people of the State to be alert in observing  the restrictions and not to lower the guard.

The Chief Minister said in his media briefing that he was upset over the unabated Test Positivity Rate in the State which showed a State average of more than 10 per cent. “There are many regions in Kerala where we have TPR of 20 to 30 per cent which has forced us to go for triple and double lock down. Since we know that total lock down is not practical anymore, we are trying to enforce lock down in regions with high TPR,” said Vijayan who also blamed the Union Government which he alleged was following distorted policies.

“There are 99, 174 persons under treatment across Kerala for Covid-19. On Tuesday, 104 persons succumbed to the pandemic. Though the TPR has come down from 29.75 to 10 per cent, it is far from satisfactory,” said Vijayan.

Describing the state of affairs in Kerala to be quite serious, Vijayan said he was appalled over the high number of pandemic patients in the State despite the good work being done by his administration. He blamed the Centre and the Delta variety of the virus for the woes of Kerala.

Since the number of patients and cases in Kerala continued to be high,Vijayan said that Covid tests at Railway Stations and airports would be intensified while the border regions would be fortified.
