After a lull of four days, seven more cases of Covid-19 variant Omicron were detected on Friday, thus taking the total number of cases to 17 in the State.
While three cases were reported from Mumbai, four cases recorded in the areas coming under the jurisdiction of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)The three patients who have tested positive for Omicron are men aged 48, 25 and 37 years who have recent history of travel to Tanzania, UK and South Africa- Nairobi respectively.
The other four new patients from the PCMC are contacts of Nigerian women who have already confirmed as a Omicron case in previous reports.
“Of the 7 persons tested positive for Omicron today, four have been vaccinated. One patient has received a single dose of the vaccine while another patient has not been vaccinated. One patient is three and a half years old and is not eligible for vaccination. While four patients are asymptomatic, the three remaining patients are showing mild symptoms,” a statement issued by the State Public Health Department said.
Meanwhile, the authorities said the total number of passengers who arrived at Mumbai, Pune and Nagpur airports since December 1 was 61,439 (9768 from At-risk countries and rest 51,761 from other countries), while passengers whose RT-PC tests have been done are 10,927 ( 9678 from high-risk countries and 1249 were other countries). Similarly, RT-PCR positive and samples sent for genomic sequencing was 25 ( 20 at-risk countries and give from other countries
Additionally, field surveillance of all international passengers who have arrived since 1st November is underway.
“Through airport and field surveillance, 89 samples have been sent for genomic sequencing. We have so received the results of 47 patients,” the daily health bulletin said.
