‘Every college student must sit for UPSC’

Wednesday, 31 March 2021 | ROHIT JAIN

Preparing for UPSC can be the best thing for graduates. The discipline, vast knowledge and analytical skills one learns are useful, says ROHIT JAIN

What is the best job in country today? Undoubtedly Civil Services will come out as clear winner if we take a poll. The UPSC exam is considered the toughest exam in the country, and it is no joke to crack it. It has earned this reputation because of the intense competition and the vast syllabus the exam has to offer. Yet, why do we not see the best talents of the country making bee-line to prepare for UPSC. Why UPSC is a priority only for a select few?

Preparing for UPSC can be the best thing for our young graduates. The discipline, vast knowledge and analytical skills one learns in the process is useful in any profession.

Only requirement is that aspirants preparing for this exam have to be determined, focused and have high energy if they wish to clear the exam. Any 21-year-old graduate is eligible for the UPSC exam.

Students who begin preparing for UPSC exams while pursuing a degree get a proper lesson in time management. They have to juggle their preparation with the classes and courses they have enrolled in, and they even have to follow a proper timetable. This habit eventually will help them in their professional career, irrespective of the field they choose.

Candidates who get selected are among the brightest and smartest individuals in the country. Not even five per cent of the graduates apply for the UPSC exams each year. Why? Why is the best job in the country not attractive to the majority of Graduates? If each and every student starts appearing for the exam, then the amount of talent to choose from will certainly increase and that would be beneficial for the nation.

The major concern that college students feel is how to manage regular studies along with UPSC preparation? And by getting stuck in this dilemma, most students quit their dream of becoming a Civil Servant one day.

Today the challenge in front of any student is different. In a world of Whatsapp, Youtube and Google, how will one find a trustworthy and concise source of information and content. The lure of availing Free content leads to many wasting precious time. These formative years shouldn't be wasted.

Keeping in mind the benefits one can get if he/ she starts preparing for the exam early in life, We at UPSC Pathshala have also come up with different courses that aim at helping the early starters with proper guidance. The flexibility of this platform makes it even easier for students to prepare for the UPSC exam along with their regular college schedule.

Each individual who is currently enrolled in any university should aim to clear the UPSC exam because there wouldn't be a better time than this to prepare for the examination.

The perks and the peace of mind the candidate will get after clearing the examination and serving the country would match the efforts he/ she puts in today. Saying that appearing in UPSC exams should be made compulsory for students pursuing a degree won't be right as each individual should have the freedom of doing what he or she wants to pursue.

But each student should be made aware that Civil Service is also an attractive option considering that not each profession will give a chance to bring a change in society.
