A woman was hacked to death over the suspicion of practising sorcery at Sarisua village under the Sarat police station in Mayurbhanj district on Tuesday evening.
According to reports, the woman, identified as Khairi Mahanta, had gone to a tube-well to fetch water when Kalia Mahanta and his brother Balia attacked her with a sharp weapon killing her on the spot. The accused duo have fled from the village after committing the crime.
On being informed, police reached the village with a forensic team, sent the body for postmortem and began an investigation. Kalia and his wife, who were childless suspected sorcery by the deceased woman as the reason behind it.
