The State Government has terminated services of 20 doctors of State health services for remaining absent from their duties for a long time.
These doctors were appointed in April last year on the post of medical officer (MO) but they had not joined their designated place of posting despite repeated warnings by the health department.
In an order the secretary health and family welfare Amit Singh Negi terminated the services of these doctors with immediate effect. The removal of these doctors paves the way for recruitment of new doctors on these posts. It is pertinent to mention here that the Uttarakhand Medical Services Selection Board (UMSSB) has recently initiated a drive to recruit 763 posts of Medical Officers (MOs). The board had recruited more than 400 MOs for the state health services in the month of April this year.
In view of the outbreak of the Covid-19, the state government had given permission to the board to recruit 276 more doctors than the advertised posts last year. The decision of the state government to terminate missing doctors is being seen as a message to the recently recruited doctors who have not joined their duties.
