Doubts were raised about how successful vasectomy surgeries are under the family planning programme, with a woman giving birth to triplets in Kondagaon district on Tuesday night.
The couple has already three children, health care staff ant a primary health centre and family members of the couple said.
The family members of the couple on Wednesday said that 33-year-old Dashmati, the wife of Santu Ram, and a resident of Palli village, gave birth to triplets at the primary health centre in Kondagaon district’s Shampur.
Four years back, after having three children, Dasmati had undergone a vasectomy surgery under the family planning programme, they said.
Now after the surgery, she has given birth to triplets, the family members said.
“Even though the family is happy over the births, but it will be a tough time ahead to raise all the children for the poor tribal family like ours,” some of them said.
On Tuesday evening, the woman developed labour pain and was brought to the primary health centre, said staff nurse Hemlata and Savita.
“Few hours later, the woman had normal delivery, giving birth to three children. One is a boy weighing 2 kg the other two are girls each weighing one and a half kg,” said Hemlata.
It was a challenging task for the medical staff at the health centre as it was for the first time that they had handled such a delivery, she said.
The babies and the mother are under the care of doctors and are healthy, the nurse said.
