Due to the State-wide lockdown in Uttarakhand, the distribution of the Take Home Ration (THR) by Anganwadi workers might get delayed in April. The THR is generally distributed on the 5th day of every month by Anganwadi workers across the State under Supplementary Nutrition Programme (SNP) of Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) to children, pregnant women and lactating mothers for 300 days. However, the THR will probably not be distributed on the said day of the next month because the Self Help Groups (SHGs) who provide the food packages to the Anganwadi centres are incapable of doing the same due to the lockdown in the State.
While talking to The Pioneer, the Child Development Project Officer (CDPO) Anju Badola said, "The SHGs have told us that they would not be able to pack and send the packages this time due to the lockdown in their areas. They said that they do not have the complete ration which is included in the list of THR. Therefore, it is possible that the distribution of THR might get delay in April by a few days."
Recently the state president of Anganwadi Workers Association, Rekha Negi had said that the government had issued a direction about Anganwadi workers delivering the THR at the doorsteps of all beneficiaries which Negi refused stating that it could pose the threat of spread of COVID-19. Pertaining to this, Badola said that nothing has been given in writing to anyone for now but if the Anganwadi workers will be ordered by the department to distribute THR by delivering at the home of every beneficiary, the workers cannot do otherwise.
