State Govt suspends IPS officer Sharma for bashing wife

Wednesday, 30 September 2020 | Staff Reporter | Bhopal

The State Government on Tuesday suspended senior IPS officer Purushottam Sharma, who was seen severely beating his wife on camera.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday tweeted about this decision.

This perhaps is the first instance in Madhya Pradesh, where a senior IPS officer has been suspended by the State Government. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan said to have taken strong objection of Sharma’s act and had ordered strict punishment. On Monday, the official—Special Director General (Prosecution) was removed from the officer Purushottam Kumar Sharma and was asked to report to Dept of Home at Mantralaya.

On Tuesday, Addl Chief Secretary (Home) Rajesh Rajora issued an order suspending Sharma, an IPS officer of 1986 batch, over being guilty of “domestic violence and moral decline’. Sharma who also courted controversy on honeytrap case, has been attached to Police Headquarters.

Sharma was caught in a CCTV camera bashing his wife mercilessly after the woman objected to Sharma’s relation with a TV news anchor. Asked by Dept of Home to furnish a reply on his act by 5pm on Tuesday, Sharma had replied saying it’s not woman harassment but a man harassment.
