A 40-year-old woman ended her life under Nawadih police station in Bokaro district after her son died during treatment at a hospital in Dhanbad on Wednesday.
Shocked over the death of her son, Jyoti Barnwal (the mother) killed herself by consuming pesticides at home. Her son Priyanshu (14) was under treatment at Asian Jalan Hospital Dhanbad.
Priyanshu was a student of Class 7 at Hazaribagh School; was ill since past few days. With several complications, Priyanshu was admitted to the hospital on 27 July, said hospital authorities.
After taking a sample for the COVID-19 test, the hospital authority handed over the body to family members. The report will be given after three days, they said.
After cremating the body at Rohinibera Nala the Jyoti and Naresh Barnwal (father of the deceased) were returned to the home. After a few moments of their arrival at home, Jyoti went into her room and consumed pesticides kept there, said a neighbour.
Soon after the incident, Jyoti rushed to a nearby hospital at Bagodar. Around 8 pm Jyoti died at the hospital during treatment, said an eyewitness.
