Recent heavy downpour has added more woes in the lives of farmers during the ongoing lockdown as on the one side they are facing problems in harvesting recent field crops and on another side they are not getting buyers of their produce due to lockdown.
-Farmers community in the State are heavily affected by recently occurred adverse incidents like outbreak of Corona pandemic which caused lockdown and climate change which brings unwanted rain and hailstorm.
Birsa Agriculture University, Agro- Meteorological Scientist, A Waddod informed that the recent rainfall have damaged those farmers, who have not completed harvesting of their field crops like wheat, chickpeas pulses, mustard and others. “The rain will damage the field crops as they are ready to harvest and farmers are across the State harvesting Rabi crops. In many parts of the State the harvesting and storing is going on so this rain will badly affect them,” he added.
The Scientist further said that the State has been important for vegetable growers since a long time so the vegetable growers will be benefited by the rain as it will provide moisture to some extent which will be beneficial for the vegetables. He said that due to climate change happened over the years harvesting pattern also changed according to it so that the harvesting of Rabi crops delayed. The harvesting of the Rabi crops should have completed till first or maximum second week of April, but the timing of harvesting is increasing over the year which is causing delay in starting of Kharrif crops, said Wadood.
The effect of circulation in the Bay of Bengal is also visible on Jharkhand as on Wednesday, the clouds that had been in the sky since morning turned into raindrops in the afternoon. Suddenly it started raining with strong winds. This trend of rain was also seen in Gumla, Lohardaga, Latehar, Ramgarh, Hazaribagh, Garhwa, Ranchi, Godda, Giridih, Palamu and Khunti. This has led to a drop in temperature.
Director of the Indian Meteorological Center, Ranchi, SD Kotal has said that there is a continuous anti-cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal and the humidity is coming with circulation in Jharkhand.
For this reason, the sky is still cloudy in the day and rain is raining in some places of Jharkhand.
The Weather Director said that the rains are likely to last till May 4. There is a chance of thunder and thunderstorms. At the same time, wind is also expected to run at a speed of 40 to 50 km in many districts.
