Punjab crosses 15,000 cases with 51 new cases

Breaching the 15,000 mark, Punjab on Thursday reported 511 fresh cases pushing the state’s COVID-19 tally to 15,456; while the 10 new deaths have took the state’s death toll to 370.

For the fifth consecutive day, Ludhiana continued to report highest number of fresh infections and maximum casualties in a single day. Among the 10 deaths, four fatalities were reported in Ludhiana, three in Jalandhar and one death each was reported in Amritsar, Hoshiarpur and Patiala.Among fresh cases, whopping 143 were reported from Ludhiana, followed by 73 in Ferozepur, 69 in Amritsar, 67 in Jalandhar, 24 in Faridkot, 18 in Mohali, 15 each in Sangrur and Tarn Taran, 14 each in Patiala and Bathinda, 13 in Kapurthala, 12 in Barnala, 10 each in Muktsar and Moga, five in Pathankot, four in Hoshiarpur, three in Fazilka and two in Gurdaspur.

Even as the state health authorities are yet to compile the details of cases from Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Faridkot, and Moga, as many as 152 fresh cases have the contact history while six have the travel history to other states or countries.Among the other fresh cases, categorized as “new” with no travel or contact history, a total of 32 cops — including 20 from Ludhiana, six from Sangrur, two from Mohali, and one each from Amritsar, Muktsar, and Fazilka — have been tested positive.

Besides, 12 healthcare workers, one from the health staff, one Border Security Force (BSF) trooper from Amritsar, seven frontline workers, three prisoners — one each from Fazilka, Barnala, and Bathinda — are among those who have been tested positive in the past 24 hours.

A total of 296 more coronavirus patients were discharged after recovering from the infection, taking the total recoveries to 10,509 at the rate of 68 percent. The state now has 4,577 active COVID-19 cases, accounting for 30 percent of the state’s total cases.

Ludhiana continued to top the COVID-19 tally in the state with 2,962 cases, followed by 2,225 in Jalandhar, 1,799 in Amritsar, 1,583 in Patiala, 1,033 in Sangrur, 817 in Mohali , 521 in Hoshiarpur, 497 in Gurdaspur, 408 in Ferozepur, 358 in Pathankot, 352 in Tarn Taran, 346 in Bathinda, 333 in Fatehgarh Sahib, 326 in Moga, 304 in SBS Nagar, 294 in Faridkot, 266 in Fazilka, 253 in Kapurthala, 245 in Rupnagar, 231 in Muktsar, 191 in Barnala and 112 in Mansa, it added.
