Delhi Police Commissioner S N Shrivastava on Wednesday inaugurated the new building of security unit at Bapudham in Delhi’s Chanakyapuri. The CP, during the event, also proposed the idea of setting up a Delhi Police Housing Corporation which will ensure construction and proper maintenance of police colonies and buildings of other police units in a time bound and expeditious manner.
The function was attended by the Special Commissioner of Police and Joint Commissioner of Police ranks officers.
According to Anita Roy, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Security, the security unit of Delhi Police is entrusted with the extremely sensitive and important task of providing security to President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, Judges of the Supreme Court and Delhi High Court, distinguished foreign dignitaries.
“In addition, this unit is providing security covers to 500 protected persons categorised by MHA who are residing in Delhi. Large number of VIPs, Heads of State and Delegates from foreign countries who visit Delhi are also protected by this unit,” said the DCP.
“The building has two access point. The public entry is from Manas Marg side and the officers’ entry gate is at Army Battle Honours Mess side. The premises are secured by CCTV coverage and latest security gadgets,” said the DCP.
“The building comprises a basement, ground and six floors. It has a covered area of 17205.98 sqm. It is divided into three blocks- the administration block comprises Officers chambers, English office branches, conference hall and wet canteen. The line block comprises barracks (capacity of 654 beds with special barracks for women officers), and dry canteen. The training block consists of an auditorium (364 capacity), simulator room, smart classrooms, gymnasium and library,” said the DCP.
