MCD collects about Rs four crore property tax

Monday, 31 August 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has collected property tax amounting to about Rs four crore in the past five months. The municipal officials informed that the tax collection has currently decreased in the corporation as most of the people tend to deposit the property tax near the last date of the submission. Also, the monsoon season and increasing Covid-19 cases have also affected the number of property taxpayers visiting the MCD campus daily, as per the officials.

As informed by the municipal tax superintendent, Dharmesh Painuly, about 60 to 100 people deposit the property tax daily these days and so far, about Rs four crore has been collected by the corporation. He said that comparing the online submission of the property tax to the last year, the number of people depositing property tax online in the corporation has increased.

Meanwhile, the officials also informed that some commercial bodies like restaurants and hotels are not depositing property tax for the current financial year possibly due to their slow business in the last few months.

It is pertinent to mention here that the operators of several commercial bodies had approached Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal 'Gama' a few months back seeking provision of some relaxation in non-residential property tax this year but he has not approved any additional relaxation in the property tax so far besides the 20 per cent rebate for every property taxpayer of the current financial year.
