Despite repeated reminders from the Sundargarh district administration to adhere to the lockdown regulations, several shops selling non-vegetarian items were found open on Wednesday at various locations in Rourkela, which has so far reported 10 coronavirus cases.
Earlier the administration had directed that fish, chicken and mutton shops are allowed to remain open only once in a week on Sunday from 7 am till 2 pm.
Violating the guidelines vendors selling the non-vegetarian items opened their outlets in the daily wholesale fish market and several other places in the city, including Panposh NAC Market , DAV fish market, Chhend VSS Market, Kalinga Vihar, Ispat Market, Munda Market and Vedvyas.
Large crowds were seen gathering in front of the shops without maintaining social distancing. But the local police and the Rourkela Municipal Corporation (RMC) did not take any action against the violators. Notably, the RMC on Tuesday sealed the Sector 18 market when a shopkeeper of Narla Road, which has been declared as containment zone, was suspected to have come in contact with another shopkeeper of Sector 18 market.
