Farmers and welfare Agriculture development Minister Kamal Patel has on Sunday said that his Government would verify the claims of Congress that loans of 26 lakh farmers have been waived off.
While talking to media persons here, Patel said that he would get the claims of PCC Chief and former Chief Minister Kamal Nath get verified and soon FIR would be lodged against previous Government for cheating with the farmers.
When asked whether the present Government has any data countering the claims of former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, Patel stated that loans of farmers have been waived off only in Chhindwara and Jhabua where the previous Government had to face by-elections. To a query, whether the present Government is ready for waiving off loans of farmers, as the previous Government failed to fulfill the promise, Patel said that his Government believes in making the farmers self-reliant. However, we would consider waiving off their loans in near future, he added.
"We are with the farmers of the State and getting their crops insured. The last date for crop insurance has been extended August 31. The banks have been opened even on Sunday for insurance and the farmers are reaching bank branches in queues. We are insuring even the defaulter farmers," he added.
With the support of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the State Government is making all out efforts to provide relief to the flood-hit farmers in Madhya Pradesh, he said.
