Khunti Dist gets award for Boribandh irrigation system

The hard work of 20,000 locals brought laurels to Khunti district of Jharkhand. With the help of 200 cement packs filled with sand, these people made 96 bori bandh in 39 villages and provided irrigation facilities to 1000 acres of land. The ground water level of the area improved. The National Water Power Ministry has awarded the National Water Power Award to Khunti District for this achievement.

The National Water Power Ministry has given this award to the Boribandh model of Khunti district. Ministry Secretary UP Singh has provided an online certificate to Khunti Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shashi Ranjan. The DC has said that through collective efforts, the implementation of Boribandh was widely possible, due to which the construction of Boribandh with the help of manpower to conserve water in Khunti district.

Shahshi Ranjan said that under the water power campaign through manpower, Boribandh has been connected with people. He further said that the credit for this achievement goes to the people of the district.” Due to the positive thinking of the people of the district, all together will decide a new dimension of development,” he added.

The DC also praised the gram sabha  and said that the members of gram sabha prepared cement packs by filling sand and soil in cement packets to construct the dams. It has set a new dimension in the irrigation system and the district will be very beneficial from the system in coming days.

Ranjan also praised NITI Aayog’s Nikhil Tripathi, Divya Sharma and Seva Welfare Society representing the Khunti district who extended their help to construct the dams.

About 200 Bori Bandh were prepared in the district before the rainy season under the joint effort of District Administration and Sewa Welfare Society. About 20 thousand people took part in this movement. A total of 96 Boribandh were made in 39 villages under the Aspirational Scheme. Due to these packets, about one thousand acres of land will be irrigated. Due to this the water level of the area has also improved.

Under the scheme, with the efforts of the District Administration and the Service Welfare Society, the villagers made shramdaan and made bori bandh in their villages. The DC said that hundreds of Boribandh will be constructed in the district.

DDC Arun Kumar Singh, DRDA Director Ishtiaq Ahmed and others were present on the occasion.
