JKM Welfare celebrates its foundation day

Chandigarh: Keeping Covid-19 in view, JKM Welfare Foundation, a non-profit organisation celebrated its first foundation day here in Sector 16 Gandhi Samarak Bhawan. Sat Paul Sharma, founder chairman of the foundation, planted a special tree ‘Kadamb’ which has religious as well as medicinal values. Dr Dev Raj Tyagi, director of the Gandhi Samarak Bhawan presided over the function. In his brief address, Sharma said that this ‘Kadamb’ tree is famous for Lord Krishana who used to sit under its shadow in Vrindavan. He also distributed 101 medicinal plants including Tulsi, Giloi, Aloe Vera, Got Cula, Besil, Lemon balam, Ashawgandha, Lemon Grass etc. which will be planted at various places across the city beautiful ‘Chandigarh’. “All these plants are helpful in maintaining as well as increasing immunity, which is quite required amid COVID-19 disease”.

People should pay homage to Sardar Beant Singh: MLA

Chandigarh: MLA from Khanna Assembly constituency, Gurkirat Singh Kotli said, the ‘Sarab Dharam Sammelan' to mark the death anniversary of late Chief Minister Beant Singh would not be held at his memorial in Chandigarh due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Urging the people of Punjab to pay homage to their beloved leader by staying at home, Kotli said, the Chief Minister Capt. Amarinder Singh has imposed some mandatory restrictions to protect the people from the growing threat of the Coronavirus pandemic. On the occasion of the 25th death anniversary of Sardar Beant Singh on August 31, the people of Punjab should pay homage to the departed leader by staying in their homes and pray for the well being of Punjab, he added.

Rs 51,000 donated to CM Relief Fund in Himachal

Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was presented a cheque of Rs 51000 by president, Mandi District Ministerial Staff Association of Health and Family Welfare Department, Manohar Lal on behalf of the Association towards the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The Chief Minister thanked the members of the Association for their philanthropic gesture and said that the contribution would go a long way in providing assistance to the needy at the time of distress. He also urged the people to generously donate towards the fund so that the poor and the needy could be provided financial assistance during the hour of distress.

81 volunteers donated blood at blood donation camp

Chandigarh: Thalassaemic Charitable Trust PGIMER-GMCH, Chandigarh organized its 198th blood donation camp in PGIMER wherein 81 voluntary donors donated blood for Thalassaemic and other needy patients. Jagjit Singh, star blood donor along with his son, Avneet Singh donated blood for 102nd time in the camp. All blood donors were honoured with gifts and donor certificates. The Trust is putting its best efforts to mobilize blood donation by organizing regular blood donation camps on every Saturday since June 6 with cooperation of Blood Bank of PGIMER and GMCH.  More than 1600 units of blood have been collected in these camps.

FIR on Cong leaders registered at behest of BJP: Cong

Chandigarh: After an FIR was lodged against Chandigarh Congress president Pradeep Chhabra and  60-70 Congress leaders and workers for their protest against Central Government’s decision to hold JEE-NEET exams during the Coronavirus pandemic, senior Congress of the city party unit in a joint statement strongly condemned this action and said that this is an act of the BJP ruled Administration to muzzle the voice of dissent of the people and especially the students community. They asked if democracy and freedom to protest are now over in the country and is it now a crime to democratically and peacefully protest against the wrong and flawed policies of the government.

PSPCL border zone starts tree plantation drive

Amritsar:  A drive has been launched to plant trees at every available space under border zone PSPCL, Amritsar, Pardeep Kumar Saini Chief Engineer border zone said on Sunday. He said directions have been passed on to all circles to plant trees during this week.In compliance of these directions, Suburban circle, Amritsar  has started the move by planting trees under majitha 1  and Chehrata subdivisions.
