HP CM congratulates PM on one yr of Modi-2.0
Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Saturday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on completion of one year of the second term of the NDA Government at the Centre by terming it as a year of conviction, courage and commitment which has laid a sound foundation of strong, vibrant and self reliant India. Thakur said the first year of the Modi Government in his second term has taken several key decisions including the abrogation of Article 370, criminalisation of triple talaq, anti-terror terrorism law, Citizenship (Amendment) Act besides paving the way for construction of a magnificent Shri Ram Temple at Ayodhya. He said another historic decision taken by the NDA Government during one year of its tenure was the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, which seeks to grant citizenship to non-Muslims from three neighbouring Muslim majority countries (Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh) on the ground of religious persecution, prompted intense violent protests.
Hry govt includes cancer patients under SSPS
Chandigarh: Haryana government is contemplating to include cancer patients of the state under the ambit of its social security pension scheme. Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment O P Yadav said the state government is contemplating a pension scheme for cancer patients on the lines of old age pension. "Like old age people, physically challenged people, the government wants to give cancer patients of any age the pension cover on the same scale as is given to these categories," Yadav told reporters. He said his department has sought data from the health department to know how many people of the state are cancer-affected "so that we could include them under the pension scheme". Yadav said the government was also contemplating giving pension to those who are HIV positive and formalities in this regard were being completed. Besides, data of patients afflicted with serious kidney ailments, including those who have undergone transplant was also being gathered. "We intend to include them too under the pension scheme," he said. At present, over 28 lakh beneficiaries get social security pension of Rs 2,250 per month.
SET extended TO PROBE HARYANA LIQUOR THEFT
Chandigarh: The term of a Special Enquiry Team set up by the Haryana government to probe the alleged theft of liquor seized by the police and the excise department has been extended by two months, state Home Minister Anil Vij said on Saturday. The SET headed by senior IAS officer T C Gupta was to submit its report to the government by May 31. Gurgaon Police Commissioner Mohd Akil will replace ADGP Subhash Yadav, who is due to retire on May 31, as a member of the SET. "We had asked T C Gupta as to how much time it will take to complete the enquiry and he wrote that he needs two more months,” the minister told reporters. On May 6, Vij had announced the formation of a Special Investigation Team following the alleged theft of seized liquor from two godowns in Sonipat district. However, the government finally formed a Special Enquiry Team (SET).
Max temp hovers below normal in Hry, Pb
Chandigarh: With light rains lashing some parts of Punjab and Haryana during the past two days, maximum temperature on Saturday hovered below normal limits. Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 32.8 degrees Celsius, six notches below normal, the Meteorological Department said here. In Haryana, Karnal recorded a high of 33 deg C, down six notches while Ambala registered a near similar high of 33.6 deg C, six degrees below normal. Bhiwani, Hisar and Narnaul also recorded below normal maximums at 35.7 deg C, 36 deg C, 35.8 deg C, respectively. In Punjab, Amritsar, Ludhiana and Patiala recorded below normal with respective maximums at 31.7 deg C, 35.3 deg C and 34.3 deg C. Light to moderate rain thundershowers are likely at few places in the two states on Sunday, according to the MeT Department weather forecast.
CM greets media on Hindi Patrakarita Diwas
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister, Manohar Lal Khattar while greeting all the media persons on Hindi Patrakarita Diwas on Saturday, said that journalism is a strong medium between the individual and society, true journalism works in the interest of the public. In a message on Hindi Patrakarita Diwas, the Chief Minister said that Hindi journalism holds great importance and makes a significant contribution to the country. He said that since Hindi is spoken in most states of the country, the interest in Hindi journalism still prevails today whether it is print media or electronic media. He said that journalism has played an important role in weeding out the malpractices from society including corruption. Hindi journalism has always generated awareness amongst the people, he added.He said along with the doctors, paramedical, police and personnel of other Government departments, media persons too are playing the role of Corona Warriors as they are disseminating invaluable information to the public even while risking their own lives. Khattar said some journalists have lost their lives in the battle against COVID-19, for which the nation salutes them. The State Government will extend support for the welfare of their family members according to the Government policy, he said
Sanjay Kundu appointed new Himachal DGP
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur's principal secretary Sanjay Kundu has been appointed as the new state director general of police (DGP) on Saturday, the state's chief secretary said. An IPS officer of 1989 batch, Kundu will replace Sita Ram Mardi who is retiring on May 31.
HP pollution control board donates `1 crore
Shimla: Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur was presented a cheque of Rs. one crore by Chairman H.P. State Pollution Control Board Rajneesh from Board Fund as contributions towards ‘HP SDMA COVID-19 State Disaster Response Fund’ here on Saturday. Member Secretary H.P. State Pollution Control Board Aditya Negi was also present on the occasion.
