A person, who had been arrested on the charge of smuggling ganja, allegedly committed suicide at the Jeyore Sadar police station in Koraput district on Saturday night.
The deceased was identified as Gopalram Paswan (48).
Reports said that Paswan was arrested a couple of days ago for allegedly transporting around 850 kg of ganja in a truck from Malkangiri to Rajasthan.
While being under police custody, he tore a blanket and used a portion of it to hang himself from the ceiling.
Later, the body was sent by the police for postmortem. It would be handed over to the family members of the deceased, said police.
