Taking a serious note of the vandalism during ongoing farmers’ protest, where in the past few days, more than 1,600 mobile towers have been damaged, Punjab Governor VP Singh Badnore on Wednesday decided to summon the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police to Raj Bhavan to seek a report in the matter and to express his serious concerns on the matter.
Noting that there has been a failure of law enforcement agencies in preventing such damages, the Governor has asked the State Government to take immediate action to prevent such vandalism from reoccurring and protect communication infrastructure in the State.
The assertions came after a representation was handed by the top BJP leaders of the State to the Governor, detailing the violence and obstructions that the BJP leaders and party workers have been subjected during these protests and the failure of the law enforcement agencies in preventing it.
Badnore expressed concern on the matter of damage to such communication installations that are vital for day-to-day affairs of business, educational institutions, and Government and the society in general.
“This is a difficult time when education is taking place through online classes, for which such communication lines are vital. Damaging and disrupting communication lines will affect not only students but the whole society and economy also in many ways,” said the Governor.
