Covid-19: 1,323 found infected in 24 hours

Jharkhand on Sunday reported as many as 1,323 cases of Covid-19 infection, registering the second highest single-day-spike in the number of cases, hardly three days after touching the highest one-day-spike of 1,365 cases, data released by the health department revealed.

The Covid tally in Jharkhand stood at 38,435 on Sunday, while at least 11,577 infected people were yet to recover from the viral infection, a bulletin released by the National Health Mission (NHM) stated. As per the bulletin, as many as 26,448 people have overcame the viral infection in Jharkhand and 410 have died of it.

As many as 10 Covid patients died during treatment on Sunday and seven of them were from East Singhbhum, the district that has reported nearly half of Jharkhand’s total Covid casualties. As per Government data, at least 184 of the 410 Covid fatalities in Jharkhand have occurred in East Singhbhum, a district hit by industrial pollution.

Ranchi, which continues to be the worst-affected district in Jharkhand, again reported the highest number of fresh cases among the 24 districts in the State.

However, the number of recoveries surpassed the number of fresh cases here, causing a dip in the count of active cases. In the past 24 hours, as many as 248 people in Ranchi were found Covid-infected, while 370 patients recovered from the infection, figures with the health department highlighted.

Ranchi has reported as many as 7,511 cases of Covid infection so far, and at least 4498 of them have recovered, while 61 could not survive, NHM stated in its bulletin on Sunday. There were 2,952 active cases of infection in the district by the time this report was filed on Sunday late evening.

While the number of Covid cases soared on Sunday, Jharkhand also saw a more than 1,000 patients recover from the infection. As per the NHM bulletin, as many as 1,182 Covid patients defeated the virus on Sunday, taking the Covid recovery rate in Jharkhand to 68.83 per cent. The national Covid mortality rate, as per government data, was 75.27 per cent on Sunday.

The 10 deaths reported on Sunday took the Covid mortality rate in state to 1.06 per cent against the national average of 1.85 per cent, Government data stated.

The Government has so far collected swab samples of 7.63 lakh people and tested 7.55 lakh of them.

On Sunday, health workers tested swab samples of 20,246 people and 18,923 of them came negative.
