Civil Judge Senior Division S Pati here has restrained some web channels and publications from carrying any defamatory articles, publications or imputations against social activist and State Progressive Women’s Forum chairperson Mamata Samantaray and her family.
Earlier the petitioner Samantaray had stated to the court that the aforesaid web channels and publications, with the motive of harassment had published some news without tangible evidence that tarnished her reputation, prestige and dignity and even impeached her character.
Following her character assassination and false accusations, the activist’s near and dear ones started questioning her and even pointed an accusing finger, which lowered her image in society, she alleged to the court.
The court perused the case record and all relevant documents and found that the petitioner had a prime facie case. The court said, “It is very easy to assassinate the character of woman but it is impossible to restore the same. Ours is a male-dominated society where women are always considered an instrument and it is easy to assassinate her character to pull her back.”
“In one of the derogatory statements it is stated that petitioner is not eligible to serve society. But this is humble view of the court that personal character of a person cannot be a hindrance in serving society because to serve the nation, attitude, dedication and selfless efforts are needed, ” the court added and restrained the opposite parties from publishing defamatory contents against activist.
On behalf of the petitioner, senior lawyer Bibekananda Bhuyan conducted the case.
