Cong cries foul after Bhagat gives Muhurt shot

Friday, 31 July 2020 | PNS | Dehradun

The Uttarakhand Congress has demanded that the state administration should take action on President of Uttarakhand BJP, Bansidhar Bhagat for not observing social distancing norms during a programme on Thursday.

Bhagat gave a Muhurt shot of a movie in the state capital on Thursday and the pictures released showed him without a facial mask.

Latching on to the opportunity, the opposition Congress party smarting from a series of cases registered against its leaders and workers for not following social distancing norms attacked the state government for adopting different standards for BJP and Congress leaders.

The spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress Garima Dassauni said that in the programme the BJP state president and the artists openly flouted the norms of the social distancing. She said that the Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat should take cognisance of the issue and direct the administration to take action on Bhagat.

She said that the administration has registered cases against many Congress leaders and workers when they held protests for not following the norms and it should now take action on Bhagat.

Arguing that two types of laws cannot be there for similar acts in a state, she exhorted the government to take action on the state BJP president.

Dassauni also shot off a letter to the Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) on the issue. In the letter she mentioned that the Home Ministry of government of India has set up a protocol to maintain social distancing during the prevailing period of Covid-19 pandemic and it is applicable on every citizen of the country.

She said that apart from registering cases on Congress leaders the police have imposed heavy penalties on people not wearing masks in public. The Congress leader demanded action should be taken on Bhagat under similar sections of law.
