Cancer hospital nurses agitate as landlords ill-treat

Nurses of the Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Centre here on Monday gheraoed the hospital’s Director demanding quarantine facility in the hospital premises as they are being denied entry into their rented accommodations by the landlords after four staffers and five patients of the hospital have tested Covid-19 positive inr the past five days.

The nurses alleged that they are not given proper kits to protect themselves from the virus and the hospital is not properly sanitised after a patient tested positive on June 24. They demanded quarantine facilities in the hospital premises for their affected colleagues.

While on Sunday, two nurses were infected by the virus, six others including four patients undergoing treatment were also found positive on Monday, official sources said. A patient-attendant and an employee of the Aahar Centre providing meals at the hospital premises have also tested positive to the virus.

In another development, at least six corona warriors of Cuttack district have also tested positive. A Deputy Superintendent of Police and five staffs of a police station in Athagarh subdivision are infected after the in-charge officer of the PS tested positive on Saturday.
