The people of three tehsils- Nagda, Maihar and Chachoda are feeling cheated, as their long pending demand of elevating these places to the status of districts were not fulfilled. At present, there are 52 districts in Madhya Pradesh.
While uncertainty prevailed on the Kamal Nath Government, the State Cabinet on March 18, in-principle gave sanction to creation of these three districts. Later, on March 20, Chief Minister Kamal Nath submitted his resignation and thus gazette notification for creation of these three districts could not be issued.
Even after the formation of new Government headed by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan did not pay amy heed towards this decision taken in Cabinet meeting. In fact, soon after the new Government was formed, corona scare had gripped the State.
Principal Secretary in Revenue department Manish Rastogi said factually, the process for creation of new districts could not take place. The process for Cabinet decision rollout commences with gazette notification. Thus, the new Government cannot be blamed.
Notably, Chachoda is a part of Guna district and an Assembly seat represented by Lakshman Singh, younger brother of veteran Congress leader Digvijay Singh. This has been a long pending demand of Lakshman Singh, who a couple of months ago staged a sit-in at Digvijay's house to press for this demand.
Similarly, Maihar, currently part of Satna district, is an Assembly seat represented by BJP MLA Narayan Tripathi, who was seen with the Congress legislators just after the Assembly proceedings on Monday. He was also absent during the parade of BJP legislators before the Governor on Monday. Tripathi has been demanding it since long.
Tripathi, along with another BJP MLA Sharad Kol (Beohari) had backed the Congress-led Government during voting on a Bill in the Assembly in July last year. Besides, Nagda is a part of Ujjain district.
