CM mourns Irrfan Khan’s demise
Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik expressed deep grief over the untimely demise of versatile Bollywood and Hollywood actor Irrfan Khan on Wednesday. “Saddened to hear about the passing away of versatile actor Irrfan Khan. He was a prolific entertainer and cinema lovers from across the world will miss him. My condolences to the bereaved family and fans. RIP,” tweeted Patnaik.
3 quarry workers killed in landslide
Brahmapur: Three workers, including two women, were killed in a landslide in a stone quarry in Ganjam district on Tuesday. The incident took place near Bhatakamorada, 20 km from here, when a huge chunk of soil and rock fell on the workers when they were working in the quarry. A police team rushed to the spot and retrieved the bodies from under the debris. Though the exact reason for the landslide was yet to be ascertained, police said it might have occurred due to quarrying operations and recent rainfall in the area.
Truck driver found hanging in Paradip
Paradip: A truck driver’s body was found hanging near Jagatigada at Bhutamundai here on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Brundaban Pradhan of Bainda village in the Talcher area. Locals spotted the body near Paradip-Chandikhol National Highway and informed the police about it. Cops have recovered the body for postmortem and started an investigation to ascertain the reason behind the death.
SBI Ladies’ Club distributes grocery
Bhubaneswar: The State Bank of India Ladies’ Club has distributed essential grocery items to 110 families who were affected due to Covid-19 lockdown in Narayani and Dehuri slums in the Unit VIII area here recently. The members of the club contributed money and prepared 110 packets, each containing food items of Rs 500. The entire activities were conducted under the supervision of club president and SBI, Bhubaneswar Circle CGM Praveena Kala.
BJP distributes foods on Madhu Jayanti
Brahmapur: BJP leaders celebrated the birth anniversary of the Utkal Gourab Madhusudan Das by garlanding the statue of Das at the Gandhi Chhak and distributing foods among the poor at Badasahi here on Tuesday. Former district president Kanhu Charan Pati, vice-president Pravat Sarangi, Gopinant Panda, Binayak Rath, Suman Sathpathy and others recited Bande Utkal Janani song on the occasion. A team led by Gosani Nuagaon Mandal president Namita Panda distributed dry foods and masks. Among others Madan Mohan Patro, Hemant Panda and Narasingha Mishra participated.
PPL donates Rs 1.5 cr to OSDMA
Paradip: The Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) contributed Rs 1.5 crore from its CSR fund to the Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA) for combating Covid-19 pandemic. PPL GM (HR) Jagannath Khuntia, handed over a cheque of the amount to OSDMA MD Pradeep Kumar Jena. Corporate Affairs head Sudhi Ranjan Mishra and CSR Manager Soumyashree Omprakash Sahoo were present.
Registration of migrants begin at Sunabeda
Koraput: Registration of migrant labouers and others, who are stranded outside the State due to Covid-19 and now intending to return home in Sunabeda, started on Monday. Anganwadi Worker Sanju Mohapatra and Helper Sabitri Chetty, Swachh Sathi Sopna Chetty, ward Councillor Bhanumati Garada, ANM Diptimayee Samantray, ASHA Worker Reena Turuk, municipality staff Sujata Mali and Sita Hial are moving from door to door and collecting information about returnees.
Mythri Infra donates 1L facemasks to Govt
Bhubaneswar: In its attempt to support the State Government in combating the Covid-19 pandemic, the Mythri Infrastructure and Mining India Private Limited donated over 1 lakh facemasks to the Government on Tuesday. Mythri chairman T Srinivasa Rao handed over the facemasks to MLA Pranab Prakash Das at Naveen Nivas here.
