The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday announced the schedule for the by-elections to the State’s two Assembly constituencies, Baleswar Sadar and Tirtol.
Polling would be held from 7 am to 6 pm on November 3 while counting of votes and declaration of results would take place on November 10, the ECI said.
For the first time, the polling time has been increased by an hour, the last hour meant for Covid-19-affected voters.
The by-polls are to be held to fill up the vacancies created by deaths of BJD MLA Bishnu Charan Das of Tirtol in Jagatsinghpur district and BJP MLA Madan Mohan Dutta of Baleswar Sadar.
The announcement of the by-elections schedule geared up the three main parties, BJD, BJP and Congress, for choice of their candidates and campaign programmes.
