On the first day of the Monsoon Session on Tuesday, the State Assembly mourned the deaths of former President Pranab Mukherjee, sitting MLAs Madan Mohan Dutta and Bishnu Charan Das, former Ministers Haraprasad Mohapatra, Saharai Oram, Sanatan Bisi and Sk Matlub Ali, former members Arjun Charan Sethi, Nelson Soreng, Rammurty Mutika, Rabindranath Bhoi, Abhimanyu Kumar and Chintamani Jena and five martyred Jawans of the Indian Army and Odisha Police.Besides, members also condoled the deaths of all corona fighters who laid down their lives for the services of the people during the face of critical situation by Covid-19 pandemic in the State.
While the Obituary Reference was presented by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, Leader of Opposition Praditpa Naikk and Congress Legislature Party Leader Narasingha Mihsra joined him in mourning demises of sitting MLAs, former members and Ministers and the Jawans. Terming former President Mukherjee as a statesman, they all said the vaccum created in country’s political scenario by his demise can’t be filled up easily.
Speaker Surjya Narayan Patro expressing grief said House’s condolences would be sent to respective bereaved families.A one-minute silence was observed for departed souls.
