An illegal factory which made country-made guns in Malkangiri in Odisha for Maoists has been busted on the basis of information provided by a Naxalite caught in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district, police said on Saturday.
Police received an intelligence input that Madvi Joga (40), a wanted Naxalite, had been spotted in the Gadiras police station area in Sukma district, Station House Officer of Gadiras Umashankar Rathod said.
A team dispatched from Gadiras nabbed Joga from a forested patch near Rasavaya village, Rahod said.
The Chhattisgarh government had declared a cash reward of Rs 8 lakh on the head of Joga, who was a member of Maoist Katekalyan Area Committee, the SHO said. Joga was arrested with a muzzle loading gun.
According to police, Joga was associated with the Maoists for the past 7-8 years and used to supply county-made guns to the guerrillas.
“During interrogation, he informed about a home-run country-made gun factory in Bhasriguda village in Malkangiri police station limits of Odisha,” the SHO said.
Alerted, the police in Malkangiri raided the house and busted the factory.
Police found two muzzle loading guns, gun butts and tools used for making guns. The house owner, Jagannath Barnai, too has been arrested, police said.
